Have you ever wondered what it would be like to experience a The Lord of the Rings story featuring Gollum? Well, come 2021, your wish will be answered.

Titled The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, the game will be the first result of a partnership between Daedalic Entertainment and Middle-earth Enterprises. For the time being, all that’s known is that it will be an action-adventure game that’s set after Gollum acquired the One Ring, but before the events of the novels and films.

Here is some of what Daedalic Entertainment CEO and co-founder Carsten Fichtelmann had to say:

Our goal was to present a storytelling experience. About four years ago, I caught Middle-earth Enterprises in Berkeley, maybe like Peter Jackson did 20 years ago, and I said we’re interested in licensing Lord of the Rings. After some negotiations, it was clear that the Tolkien estate looked for a company that was capable of doing something which is more story-orientated than some of the other products that came out over the last years.

From the looks of it, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum’s 2021 release will coincide with Amazon’s “Lord of the Rings” TV series, and will debut on the PC and “all relevant at [that] time” when it does.
