Dragon Ball Super episode 45 aired this week and it is still set on the Planet Potaufeu which is where Goten and Trunks are. Vegeta had to go and save them, but he got in a bit of trouble himself.
As you know from last week, the alien Grill spit out some purple ooze on Vegeta and this created what Dragon Ball Super is calling a “Copy Vegeta”. This is more than just a clone because it’s acting as if it’s the real Vegeta and can wipe him out of his own existence.
The thing about the purple ooze is that it was created by the natives of Planet Potaufeu and it’s very dangerous. This is why that old man didn’t want it to land in the wrong hands. Now the Z fighters are in trouble because this purple copy Vegeta is as tough as it can be.
Since Vegeta’s life force is fading away, there is nothing he can really do to fight back. He can no longer use Ki blasts and he’s getting weaker as time goes by. If you are a Vegeta fan, you won’t like how he has to sit this episode out most of the time.
Since Vegeta cannot fight, all of them have to retreat and somehow form a plan of attack. They have never really faced anything like this before apart from maybe Buu. We find out from the old man that the purple ooze devoured Grill and his alien men so now all of the purple copies are running wild. If the purple copies live long enough, the original bodies fade from existence. Pretty much the real Vegeta only has a few more minutes to live.
As a last ditch effort to save Vegeta, we finally get to see Goten and Trunks fuse into Gotenks. Unfortunately, the copy Vegeta is stronger than Gotenks and can read all of his moves. Gotenks pushes it up a notch to Super Saiyan 3. Sadly though, all of his attacks have no effect on copy Vegeta and the real one is starting to be erased from existence.
Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks doesn’t last very long as the copy Vegeta beats him down until they diffuse to become Goten and Trunks again. Things don’t look so good until Goku senses danger and uses Instant Transmission to teleport himself to Planet Potaufeu.
Because Goku is dumb, the others have to explain to him that the purple copy Vegeta is evil while the real one is about to die. The situation is getting very dangerous because the real Vegeta is starting to fade away and only has a few more minutes left to live. Goku needs to beat the Copy Vegeta before the real one dies. The episode ends when the fight between Goku and Copy Vegeta is starting to just heat up.
Overall, Dragon Ball Super episode 45 may be enjoyable to some but predictable to others. It is a little tiresome that Goku has to come in and save the day yet again. Not to mention Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks got beaten up pretty easily without putting up much of a fight. The storyline itself is interesting so we’ll see if this purple ooze story continues or ends very soon.
Next week we see more of Goku vs Copy Vegeta, although Goku is still just fighting in his base form. It’s not too long until Future Trunks arrives on the scene which is happening just two weeks from now!
