Your journey into the woods of Burkittsville, Maryland begins during the bright light of day. It won’t stay this way though, and eventually you’ll need to shine some light on the situation. Thankfully, you start the game with all you need to accomplish this task in the form of a small flashlight that was clearly created in the 1990’s when the story takes place. Yes, it’s not the brightest and most powerful light, but it will have to do as you search for the missing boy at the heart of the game. Here’s how to use the flashlight in Blair Witch, and how to put it away when you’re done.
How to Use the Flashlight
The answer is similar to how to use the Walkie Talkie, in that it all involves the somewhat cumbersome inventory menu found in Blair Witch. To access it you simply hold RB on an Xbox controller, or Tab or middle mouse button on PC. Holding these brings up the inventory screen, displaying all the items you currently have available to use. The flashlight should be on the right side, so select it to bring it out.
The flashlight will immediately illuminate, shining a small amount of light directly in front of you. This will track wherever you look, so light will always be on what you’re looking at. There’s no way to just turn the flashlight off, while keeping it out, but it doesn’t seem to run on limited batteries, so use it all you need until something changes. Once you’re done with it here’s how to put away the flashlight. The quickest way is to just tap the inventory button (tab, RB) again. You can also repeat the process above, bringing up your inventory with tab or RB then select the flashlight again to put it away.
