Diablo 2 Resurrected: How to Find the Monastery Barracks and Monastery Catacombs

Recommended Videos

The Monastery Barracks and Monastery Catacombs are two important locations during Act I of Diablo 2: Resurrected. The quest ‘Tools of the Trade’ requires the player to visit the Monastery Barracks, while ‘Sisters to the Slaughter’ takes place in the Monastery Catacombs. Diablo 2 heavily focuses on exploration and doesn’t provide detailed maps – or even a map at all, for that matter – or quest guiders, meaning these locations can be tricky to find.

In this guide, we will detail how to find the Monastery Barracks and Monastery Catacombs in Diablo 2: Resurrected, but first, we will detail how to obtain the ‘Tools of the Trade’ and ‘Sisters to the Slaughter’ quests.

How to start ‘Tools of the Trade’ and ‘Sisters to the Slaughter’ in Diablo 2 Resurrected

‘Tools of the Trade’ is the fifth quest in Act 1 of Diablo 2: Resurrected, it is obtainable from Charsi in the Rogue Encampment after the player has completed the ‘Forgotten Tower’ quest or has achieved level 8. Talk to Charsi to start the quest, which has the player searching for the Horadric Malus, an enchanted smithing hammer. ‘Sisters to the Slaughter’ is only obtainable after ‘Tools of the Trade’ has been completed and can be started by talking to everyone’s favourite Horadrim, Deckard Cain.

Tools-of-the-Trade

Both of these quests will require the player to travel to the Monastery, with ‘Tools of the Trade’ taking place in the Barracks and ‘Sisters to the Slaughter’ in the Catacombs. The next paragraph will detail how you can access both locations needed for the final quests of Act I in Diablo 2: Resurrected.

How to Find the Monastery Barracks and Monastery Catacombs in Diablo 2: Resurrected

Although we cannot pinpoint an exact location, as maps layouts are randomly generated in Diablo 2: Resurrected, we will guide you through all of the steps you can take to find the Monastery Barracks and Monastery Catacombs easily. Beginning with the Monastery Barracks, the player must make their way into the Black Marsh, the location the previous quest took place in.

Ideally, you should have set up a waypoint in the Black Marsh before or after ‘The Tower’ quest. If you have already made your way back to the Rogue Encampment without setting a waypoint, teleport to Dark Wood and follow the path you originally took to enter the Black Marsh.

How to find the Monastery Barracks

Once you have arrived in the Black Marsh, follow the dirt path as far as possible. Eventually, you will arrive at the Monastery Gate. Enemies beyond the gate will be the most powerful demons you have fought thus far, so make sure you are prepared with enough mana and health potions, as well as making sure you’re at the appropriate level.

Barracks-Entrance

Enter the gate and walk into The Outer Cloister. As mentioned previously, the layout is randomly generated, so you will need to explore The Outer Cloister, opening any closed doors you find. The Monastery Barracks is a dark room behind one of these closed doors, filled with barrels and crates. Explore the Monastery Barracks to locate the boss needed to obtain the Horadric Malus hammer needed for ‘Tools of the Trade’.

Important: Make sure you find the Waypoint inside The Outer Cloister, as you will have to return to this area to complete the next quest and find the Monastery Catacombs

How to find the Monastery Catacombs

Use the Waypoint, or portal created by ‘Scroll of Town Portal, to travel back to The Outer Cloister. Head back into The Barracks and explore the area until you find the entrance to ‘The Jail’, which you may have noticed whilst you were looking for The Smith earlier. Traverse The Jail and make sure to active the Waypoint on Level 1, in case you die or need to head back into the Rogue Encampment. Eventually, you will reach the Inner Cloister.

Jail-Entrance

Activate the Waypoint and explore the area until you find The Cathedral. This is a huge dungeon that will lead to the Monastery Catacombs at the end. Make sure to fully explore the dungeon and activate its Waypoint before entering the Monastery. The Monastery is 4 levels long and has a Waypoint on Floor 2, which is absolutely crucial, as the boss at the end of the Monastery Catacombs will be the toughest enemy you’ve faced yet.
