Genshin Impact: How to Unlock Fishing and Get Fishing Rods

Recommended Videos

Fishing has been added to Genshin Impact, but players need to obtain a fishing rod and bait before they can cast their lines in the waters of Teyvat. The version 2.1 update for Genshin Impact added several new features, including new playable islands in Inazuma and multiple new characters, but fishing has proven to be a fan-favorite addition in this update. There are a few things you need to complete before you can start fishing, but these prerequisites can be taken care of in just a few minutes. Here’s how to get a rod and bait so you started with fishing in Genshin Impact.

How to Unlock Fishing in Genshin Impact

To unlock fishing in Genshin Impact, you have to complete the World Quest called Exploding Population. You can only start this quest if you have already unlocked the Serenitea Pot, which is obtained by completing the quest called “A Teapot to Call Home.” That quest is unlocked by reaching Adventure Rank 35 and completing the Archon Quest Chapter 1: Act 3 “A New Star Approaches.” If you have the Serenitea pot unlocked, the fishing quest will automatically appear in your quest log.

To start the Exploding Population quest, head to Monstadt and talk to Katheryne at the Adventurers’ Guild. She’ll send you to see Nantuck by the river outside of the city. Speaking to him will unlock fishing. You can only fish at designated fishing spots. If you see ripples on the water’s surface, then you can fish there. The fishing tutorial lets you fish at the Cider Lake fishing spot, but other fishing spots can be found all over Monstadt, Liyue, and Inazuma.

How to Get Different Fishing Rods

Once you have completed Exploding Population, you can visit the Fishing Association in each region to obtain specialist fishing rods. You have to turn in certain kinds of fish in order to unlock each rod. Here are all three fishing rods you can currently get in Genshin Impact:

  • Monstadt: Windtangler
  • Wishmaker: Liyue
  • Inazuma: Narukawa Ukai

Each fishing rod requires you to turn in 80 fish to the Fishing Association. The required types of fish will differ depending on the rod you are trying to purchase.

Genshin Impact is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices.
