How to Evolve Greavard into Houndstone in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Much like Fidough, Greavard was incredibly quick to steal the hearts of Pokemon Trainers when it was first showcased in a trailer leading up to the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Before the game was released, many players had decided that it was essential for Greavard to join their party. But with a well-loved Pokemon, no one thought about the possibility of its evolution. Unfortunately, Greavard’s ghostly goodness doesn’t last forever, so read on to find out when it will evolve and how you can trigger it to do so.

When Does Greavard Evolve in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?

Luckily, evolving Greavard requires no items or particular moves, but one significant string is attached to the process, which can make it slightly more confusing. Firstly, you will need to level your Pokemon to Level 30 before it considers evolving, which seems simple enough, but due to the ghost-type nature of Greavard, he will not evolve starting at level 30 until it is nighttime. However, since Pokemon Scarlet and Violet follow an in-game day and night cycle rather than real-world time, you can always hang around in Paldea until you can level up.

Once Greavard is leveled to either 30 or beyond at night, the evolution cutscene will trigger to show it evolving into Houndstone, which maintains the same complete ghost type as Greavard instead of adopting a dual type. So although evolving ghost Pokemon at night feels like a gimmick and occurs more often than you think, it’s significantly more accessible than having to use a specific move several times or running around the region trying to locate a particular item. Plus, with a Pokemon as sweet as Greavard, you’ll want to make the most of your time together before meeting Houndstone.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available on Nintendo Switch.
