The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD offers a simple upgrade system that uses a variety of treasures, of those, we’re looking at how to get bird feathers. Unlike other treasures in the game that you primarily get as either random drops or just by finding them hiding around in the overworld, these ones have a less obvious way of being obtained. The secret to getting your hands on these useful trinkets actually lies all around in the form of, you guessed it, birds.

How to Get Bird Feathers

The first thing you’ll be needing for this is a bug net, you can purchase one in Skyloft from Beedle for a small sum of rupees. After you’ve gotten your hands on a bug net, first see if you can upgrade it as this will make the process much easier. If you’re still in the early game this may not be an option, but you can still make do with the normal one so have no worries. Next, you’ll want to descend into the Faron Woods through the green pillar and land pretty much anywhere that you want to. However, the back of the Sealed Temple area is a good place to start.

Once you’ve landed in the woods the next step is actually quite simple. Look around for some small birds on the ground, pull out your bug net, and attempt to catch some of them. Don’t rush when doing this though, approach them slowly and lock onto them when you get close. Then, make a quick and decisive swing with the net to try and scoop up some birds. This will nab you one bird feather per bird. If you missed, just back away from the area until the birds come back and try again. If you happen to notice a blue bird, then you have an opportunity to get yourself a rare blue bird feather. Those are used in some unique upgrades and also fetch a pretty penny.
