Analyst Predicts PlayStation 5 Will Launch In 2018

Predictions in the gaming industry happen a lot, but depending on the sources you might actually be getting some solid insight into what the future of the industry will look like. While it might seem crazy to already be thinking about a successor to the PlayStation 4, one analyst who has correctly predicted the releases of other hardware claims it will be coming within the next couple of years.

The man in question is analyst Damian Thong, who correctly predicted the release of both the PlayStation 4 Slim and PlayStation 4 Pro. However, his latest prediction suggests that Sony will be releasing the PlayStation 5 in 2018. The prediction was shared by The Wall Street Journal’s Takashi Mochizuki, who posted the following on Twitter:

“PS4 Pro? Wait, what about PS5? Macquarie’s Damian Thong who correctly predicted PS4 slim and Pro says PS5 may arrive in 2nd half of 2018.”

Of course, seeing as it’s just a prediction means we can’t put too much weight on this, but considering this analyst has been right before it isn’t as far fetched as some others. It would make the PlayStation 4’s life cycle on the briefer side of things at five years, though, so the prediction definitely seems a little strange.
