Bioware’s New IP Has Been Delayed To Fiscal Year 2019

Bioware has been providing us with games for a number of years now, whether it is based on existing properties like Star Wars or branching out into their own original games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age. While one studio at Bioware has been working on the recently released Mass Effect Andromeda among other things, another of their studios has been working on a brand new IP that was scheduled for release in fiscal year 2018, but that game has now been delayed.

EA held their quarterly earnings briefing for Q4 that wrapped up the 2017 fiscal year, where they discussed their multiple studios and upcoming games. One of those was Bioware’s new IP that was originally scheduled for release sometime in the 2018 fiscal year, though it has now been pushed back by a year.

“We are very pleased with the progress of our new action IP from BioWare – the design is stunning, gameplay mechanics are excellent, and the action will be exhilarating. This game is built around a live service, and through our 5 creative process we have decided to add more to the disruptive new social designs for our players. To accommodate that, we are moving the launch date for this project into FY19”

For those that may not know how they work, the fiscal year here falls much differently than the regular calendar. The 2018 fiscal year is going on right now and will run through the end of next March. Therefore, fiscal year 2019 will actually begin in April 2018 and will run through March 2019, so we could technically be waiting almost two years until the game releases.

On top of the delay news, the fact they refer to this new IP as being built around a “live service” seems to confirm the idea that it’s likely going to be some sort of Destiny-like game in that sense. Even with this delay, hopefully we’ll still hear news about the game at E3 this year at EA Play.
