Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and its predecessors have had their fair share of double XP weekends, but Treyarch has something brand new for this week. Starting today at 10am Pacific Time players will receive double the normal amount of Cryptokeys while playing the game. This promotion lasts all weekend, going all the way until Tuesday at 10am Pacific Time.
Cryptokeys are used in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s “Black Market” where they can be used to purchase supply drops. The market is described as “Your one-stop shop for badass multiplayer in-game loot. Here in the Black Ops III underworld you can trade your hard-earned cryptokeys for supply drops containing all-new mp content to up your game and help you stand out.”
Those supply drops contain items that you can use to customize your player and your in-game experience. Most of the stuff in here is cosmetic, but for those that really like to tailor their character for themselves it’s a great way to do it.
You have two difference options to select from within the Black Ops 3 Black Market, with a common supply drop costing only 10 cryptokeys, but giving a very small chance at rare items. The rare supply drop costs 30 cryptokeys but is guaranteed to contain something rare.
You gain cryptokeys by playing matches online, completing Dark Ops Challenges, and you’ll occasionally get extra ones in a rare supply drop. All of these should drop double the usual amount of cryptokeys as long as this promotion is running.
One thing to note though, while Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is available on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC, only PS4, Xbox One, and PC have the Black Market feature that utilizes the cryptokeys. If you’re on the older systems this weekend has no real significance to you, so just wait for the next double XP weekend to diver in.
