Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare truly revolutionized the CoD series, and military first-person shooters as a whole. Now the game is coming back in the form of Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered, taking the campaign and a selection of multiplayer maps and upgrading them for modern consoles and specifications. The game comes for free with copies of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, but only in special editions. The question on many gamers’ minds after this announcement was whether or not they can just get a copy of Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered separately, and unfortunately the answer seems to be no.
From the Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered FAQ posted by Activision in regards to the question “How can I get Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered” says “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is only available through the Legacy, Legacy Pro, and Digital Deluxe editions of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.” This seems to completely shut down any hope of being able to purchase the game separately, either as a retail disc or even just as a digital download.
Of course, this is the gaming industry we are talking about, so the real question should be “how long until they change their mind”. I mean, they’re putting a lot of effort into creating Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered, updating the graphics in many significant ways if the announcements are all true. The idea that they would just relegate it to those who purchased the Legacy Edition of Infinite Warfare makes sense in that it will sell more copies of the more expensive game, but a few months or even a year down the line it makes even more sense to let people throw $10 or $15 at Activision and get the game that they already made.
We’ll have to wait and see if this logic wins out, but for now the cold, hard truth is that Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered cannot be purchased separately from Infinite Warfare.
