Dark Souls will soon be Xbox One backwards compatible as the game will be playable when gamers pre-order Dark Souls 3.

On the Australian Xbox Store, they announced: “For a limited time, purchase a digital pre-order of DARK SOULS III on the Xbox One Store and get the original Dark Souls playable on Xbox One. The code for Dark Souls will be delivered to your Xbox message center in 7-10 days. You can redeem the code on your Xbox One console or at xbox.com/redeemcode

It appears this offer is only available for digital pre-orders for Dark Souls 3. The original Dark Souls game won’t be offered if you pre-ordered the game elsewhere.

This is a similar deal that Bethesda did when Fallout 4 came out late last year. Digital owners were offered a free copy of Fallout 3 that is backwards compatible on Xbox One.

If you already own the original Dark Souls on Xbox 360, you might be able to play it on Xbox One within the next 10 days or so. For new players, it’s best to start practicing your skills as the Dark Souls series is notorious for its hard difficulty.
