Dean ”Rocket” Hall, creator of the acclaimed Zombie survival mod DayZ, has announced recently that himself and Microsoft ”have talked extensively” over the possibility of a next gen console version of the game.

In an interview over at GameReactor, Hall discussed the very real possibility of a port for DayZ, albeit not in the near future with the standalone still in the early stages –

“We’d certainly consider release on any feasible platform with a realistic publishing model. It seems like currently both of the next-gen consoles should provide an environment we can develop inside. I personally feel the new consoles have yet to prove themselves able to rival the PC experience, however I feel there is the potential from both.”

For gamers opting for the next gen console experience over PC gaming, the prospect of a big name title arriving on console with the backing of a company such as Microsoft really does make for an exciting proposition. When queried about the prospect of seeing DayZ on the PS4, Hall noted that he had not had the ”opportunity to view the full details of the PS4” just yet, though his time with Microsoft means he knows the Xbox One inside out.

Hall also noted the need for companies such as Microsoft and Sony to support third-party developers if they want to keep seeing titles such as DayZ emerging with the potential to make their way onto consoles. Beyond the ‘potential’ he highlighted, he finished by claiming that ”it’s too early to say at this point” to speculate exactly what the consoles will achieve and with it, whether a DayZ port will arrive.

Would you like to see a port of DayZ on console platforms? Maybe you think it should stick to PC? Leave a comment below with your thoughts!
