The first of many Raids has finally become available for Destiny. Raids are super-tough missions that allow for six players. Unfortunately there is no matchmaking system for Raids, so you’ll need to beef up your PSN friends list. Bungie has said that the lack of Matchmaking is due to the extreme difficulty of the missions and the need for communication between team members.
No one knows what lies within the Vault of Glass
Bungie announced this first Raid by saying “The Director is light on details for the Raid in Destiny. This is by design. The most elaborate mission ever created by Bungie is a mystery as much as it is a challenge – a puzzle and a gauntlet. The race to see who can be first to solve it – with their cunning and their skill – is about to begin.” The raid is set to only allow players who are at or beyond Level 26 to play. However, Bungie recommends that you be above this in order to get the most out of the experience.
Called “Vault of Glass”, the mission takes place on Venus. The story description is “No one knows what lies within the Vault of Glass, only that beyond its gates you will face your greatest challenge yet. Gather your Light. Stand together. Become legend.” The loot given for completing the Raid is a Raid Set Gear, which will include a legendary weapon and Ascendant Materials. Once you receive the loot for the Raid you have to wait for the weekly reset on Tuesday before you can get it again.
This is the first Raid to become available for Destiny, but many more should come out later on. These are part of Bungie’s long-term plans for the game, as more content is planned for future release. That content will include other Special Events, such as new Public Events, Crucible Challenges, and others. You can check out the currently available calendar of Special Events here, but keep checking back as the plans are ever changing.
