Diablo III team still focused on how to make finding rare loot better

The central gameplay mechanic of Diablo III is the hunt for rare items throughout the game. Whether you’re grinding through the first act on normal, or battling the legions of hell on inferno difficulty, you’re eyes are always peeled for loot that will improve your character. Blizzard isn’t done tweaking this formula, and coming updates for Diablo III will see an emphasis on making this process even better, according to a recent developer blog by Travis Day.

The Diablo III developer says the team has plans to make legendary items more powerful, and in-turn more useful when a rare one is discovered.

“When a Legendary drops, the question that goes through a player’s mind should never be “is this a good item?” It should be “how awesome is it?” For example, if you are playing a Demon Hunter wielding a Rare crossbow and a Legendary crossbow drops, we want your reaction to be “Holy crap, YES!” not “*sigh* another Hellrack.” It’s a problem if players don’t want to bother identifying their Legendaries, let alone pick them up. We want to change this.”

“We want players to feel like entire new builds can open up if they get their hands on the right items,” continues Day. Who also explains that Blizzard is thinking about new types of items to add into the system that can change character expansion in more meaningful ways.

Though Diablo III fans shouldn’t expect these changes all in one fell swoop. Blizzard CM Lylirra explains that these changes aren’t coming with 1.0.8, but are being planned for sometime after 1.0.8 ships.
