Ray tracing isn’t a new technology.  It’s been used in rendering computer graphics for decades, but with Nvidia’s announcement of the RTX 2080, it’s going to be a technology that is now possible to use in our favorite games.  If you want a full breakdown on what Ray Tracing is, you can head to Nvidia’s breakdown and explanation of the technology.

DICE is making use of ray tracing in Battlefield V as was revealed at Gamescom.  In the video above, DICE gets into all the technical details regarding what RTX means for Battlefield V.

In Layman’s terms, Real Time Ray Tracing in Battlefield V is going to make the game look and feel more realistic by accurately reflecting light sources in the game on any surface that should have a light reflection, and this happens on multiple sources.  It’s closer to the realistic reflections that you would see if you were looking at something in the real world.

This ray tracing technology is only possible at the moment with Nvidia’s newly announced RTX graphics cards and that graphical bump is probably only going to be experienced by the most hardcore PC Gaming enthusiasts.  Nvidia announced multiple variations of the card that will be released later this fall.  The RTX 2080 and RTX 2080Ti will release on September 20th, while the RTX 2070 will release in October.
