As expected, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will feature characters and stages made available through DLC. However, while Nintendo has announced that these additional features are coming, they made clear that the main game features tons of content on its own, and that work hasn’t been completed on these extra pieces of content. If you’re a huge Smash fan though, and you just have to have everything then you can buy these sets separately or as part of the Fighter Pass bundle.
It seems that players won’t be able to buy just individual fighters. Instead each DLC release will be bundled with a new stage, or possibly multiple stages, along with additional music for the game. Five bundles are planned, with the Fighter Pass containing them all in a discounted set.
This is not the first time DLC has been a part of the Smash Bros. series. The previous game on Wii U featured multiple character releases, all of which are now part of the base offering in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. With 74 characters in total, Nintendo will have to search far and wide to find new ones that aren’t already included. Could Banjo finally make the cut? With potentially a year of DLC releases ahead, we won’t know any time soon.
