Bandai Namco has released a new trailer for Dragon Ball FighterZ showing off Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta in action.
It wasn’t all too long ago that an issue of Jump magazine revealed the two characters, raising more than a few eyebrows. Sure, SSB Goku and Vegeta are really cool and extremely powerful, but why include them as stand alone characters and not as an in-game transformation? It was assumed that the two would be different enough from their base counterparts to warrant including them in the roster and now we have a chance to assess that.
Here’s the Dragon Ball FigherZ SSB trailer in question:
As we can see, they do have very different movesets, with SSB Goku and Vegeta making abundant use of the general over-the-top feel they exude in Dragon Ball Super.
However, there’s still the question of why they couldn’t have simply been transformations for Goku and Vegeta in the first place. Bandai Namco said in a recent interview that each character will be unique and won’t play like any other on the roster, so it would have been cool to see Goku and Vegeta transform mid-fight if they find themselves in a disadvantageous position. In order to balance this out, the transformations could either last an extremely short period of time so players would need to constantly use their meter, or have them cost ALL of a player’s meter so it would be difficult for them to mount a complete offense with any of their characters before Goku or Vegeta transforms.
In either case, the SSB Goku and Vegeta are in the game and will be available as an early unlock for those who pre-order the game, so there’s little use crying over it.
Dragon Ball FighterZ will release worldwide for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in February 2018.
