EA has reported on its financial earnings for the third quarter of the fiscal year 2016. In the report, the company confirms that Star Wars Battlefront sold over 13 million copies worldwide. It is also the biggest publisher in the Western world for the newer consoles.

EA posted its financial reports on the official website. It noted that Star Wars Battlefront “surpassed EA’s fiscal year guidance of 13 million units sold-in.” The open beta was played by over 9 million players, so it’s impressive the actual full game managed to attract more people.

Star Wars Battlefront’s success is due to the hype for Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens. Even though the game has no Force Awakens content, everyone wanted to play anything Star Wars. Not to mention it has been ten years since the last Battlefront game came out back in 2005.

Another interesting thing EA noted in its report is that its the “#1 publisher on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles in the Western World for calendar year 2015 based on available sources and EA estimates“. This might be due to the many EA Sports titles which always sell well every year. Madden NFL 16 and FIFA 16 led the way as the former was the best selling sports title in USA, whole the latter was the best selling game of all genres in Europe.

With results like this, we can be sure that EA is prepping up even more Star Wars video games in the future. Hopefully the newer games focus on Force Awakens content as many people would love to play as the likes of Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo Ren.
