EarthFall didn’t make many wave when it released earlier this year, as it really didn’t offer players all that much in the way of content. However, its core gameplay of four players versus a horde of aliens might just be enough for those who’ve been looking to fill the Left 4 Dead-shaped hole in their heart these past few years, and the game just got a major update in the form of the “Invasion” expansion.
With this expansion, Earthfall can offer its players a few more reasons to stick around. These include a new player progression system, new character abilities, new outfits, weapon skins, four additional maps, and Earthfall’s version of horde mode. This is all coming to the game at no additional charge, too.
The new character abilities don’t appear to be anything too wild and crazy, but will be nice to have nonetheless. Players can now gain the ability to carry an extra grenade, dual-wield MP5s, or escape from a Thresher’s grasp by shoving a grenade in its mouth. This last ability is the one current players will surely appreciate the most, as it’s all too easy to get pinned down by these aliens.
As for the new maps, they offer a decent range of terrain types. “Raven’s Roost” offers plenty of elevated positions, “Nuclear Facility” has that ol’ industrial charm about it, “Precious Cargo” throws in the challenge of poor visibility, and “The Mines” gives player the opportunity to enjoy a good old-fashioned bottle neck. All in all, it looks like there’s some nice variety here.
With the likes of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and Red Dead Redemption 2 recently released and causing a stir, these additions probably aren’t all that enticing to those who aren’t already interested. For those who are or who are just looking for some cheap cooperative fun, EarthFall: Invasion might now be worth looking into. It currently sells for $8.99 on Steam and $29.99 on PS4 and Xbox One.
