The developer responsible for the Fable and Black & White series, Lionhead Studios, is officially closing down today. The announcement was made via Eurogamer, who spoke with a Microsoft spokesperson about the decision to close the studio down.
The spokesperson from Microsoft said the following:
“We can confirm that after much consideration over the six week consultation period with Lionhead employees, we have reached the decision to close Lionhead Studios. We have nothing but heart-felt thanks for the team at Lionhead for their significant contributions to Xbox and the games industry.”
Lionhead was founded by Peter Molyneux in 1996, eventually being acquired by Microsoft 10 years later. However, Molyneux left the company in 2012 not long after the launch of Fable 3.
The game that Lionhead Studios was working on, called Fable Legends, was also completely scrapped with no current plans for the development to be continued by another developer.
