Final Fantasy 7 Remake Won’t Be Using The Luminous Engine

Final Fantasy XV is being built with the impressive looking Luminous Engine. However, the recently announced Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be using something else.

Nova Crystallis had a chance to speak with Hajime Tabata at Gamescom 2015. Tabata is the director for the upcoming Final Fantasy XV.

According to Tabata, there are no plans currently for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake to use the Luminous Engine. It might be using some other game engine from the sounds of things.

Kingdom Hearts 3 was set to use the Luminous Engine when it was first announced, however it dropped this engine in favor of Unreal Engine 4.

It’s possible Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be using Unreal Engine 4 as well. Unlike the Luminous Engine, Unreal is used by many other developers and could be easier to use. However, we’ll just have to wait and see what type of engine Square Enix decides to use at a later date.

Square Enix is testing the patience of its fans with all of the games it has announced over the past few years. Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy XV still have no release dates or even a release year. Gamescom 2015 didn’t provide us with any more details either…

It will be interesting to see when the Final Fantasy 7 Remake gets released. A 2017 release is optimal, but it sounds like the game won’t be ready then.
