Koei Tecmo has presented the first trailer of Dynasty Warriors 9, the latest entry in veteran musou series, which is expected to be true revolution in the series, with some major gameplay changes. For the first time, Dynasty Warriors will connect all the battlefields through an open world, which will offer the most immersive experience in the series yet.
It’s not just a matter of unifying the space, as players will now have much more options to interact with the environment and take advantage of if in battles. According to Koei Tecmo’s press release, players will have “the ability to climb buildings and mountains, wield grappling hooks to traverse walls, and make use of objects like oil barrels in battle.”
Fighting mechanics are also getting a makeover, with the introdution of the State Combo System. Players will now be able to perform three different moves: Trigger Attacks, Flow Attacks and Finish Attacks. Each type sets up the next one, and if they are successfully performed, they blow massive damage to the enemy.
As previously confirmed, all 83 characters from Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires are expected to return, which makes Dynasty Warriors 9 not only the most complete entry so far, but also the most ambitious in the long history of the franchise.
Dynasty Warriors 9 is confirmed to release for PS4 in Japan. Koei Tecmo has not confirmed a release date or any other additional platforms. Watch the new trailer below.
