The Coalition has been performing tests to bring competitive multiplayer crossplay to Gears of War 4 between the Xbox One and Windows 10 PC versions of the game last year. Apparently, those tests are now complete and cross-play is now a standard feature in the Social Quickplay Playlist.
Microsoft references both “fan feedback and data” from the tests for the move to make the feature permanent.
Cross play for Gears of War 4 certainly will have its benefits, a larger player count for both versions of the game will definitely make finding a full game easier to find. Â Though some had reservations about allowing console players and PC players to comingle due to the possibility of cheating.
While the verdict is still out on whether cheating will surface. Â Microsoft says that during the tests they saw little variance in match results when using the metrics of Average KD score and kills per match when comparing Xbox One and PC players.
This is still in “trial mode” per Microsoft where they’ll monitor these metrics to make sure that the results they saw in the tests will hold up in day to day play.
So what about the Core and Competitive Modes? Â Microsoft says that they will remain platform independent.
