The latest issue of Game Informer is out and Gears of War 4 is the featured game of the issue. Of the many revelations that are made in the cover story regarding the game, the biggest is that the game stars Marcus Fenix’s son, JD Fenix.

It was revealed that the game is set 25 years after the events of Gears of War 3, with JD running away from home to join the COG. However, JD ends up going AWOL after what is being called a “classified incident” that will be revealed in the game.

Joining JD as playable characters are Kait Diaz and Delmont “Del” Walker. Liam McIntyre voices JD, Laura Bailey voices Diaz and Eugene Byrd voices Diaz.

McIntyre said the following in regards to playing JD: “It’s kind of terrifying, because I get to be the lead in a new era of Gears, which is unbelievable, amazing, and exciting. I’m the legacy, because my dad is Marcus Fenix. JD’s a soldier and a bit of a freedom fighter, and in his heart he’s a bit of a renegade. He’s different from Marcus, but he’s still that heroic archetype.”

Ending all of the reveals is the fact that Gears of War 4 will be bringing the series back to its more tense and horror-themed roots, with a brand new close-cover melee system being added to the gameplay.

Gears of War 4 will be getting a multiplayer beta this Spring, though the full game is expected to launch exclusively for the Xbox One this Fall.
