Ghost Recon Future Soldier Delayed

Ubisoft announced today on its conference call that the highly anticipated and long overdue Ghost Recon Future Soldier will be released in early 2011.  Originally slated for a holiday release in 2010, the Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot thinks that this is a highly competitive environment to release the title in.  He was also quoted as saying the additional time will allow developers to “realize their vision” for the latest installment in the popular franchise.

Seeing as the delay in Splinter Cell Conviction proved to be a great move releasing the game with no competition might be something that developers should look a little more carefully at.

The Holiday release window for 2010 is certainly chocked full of potential heavy hitters in terms of competing titles.  Activision’s Call of Duty series has a strangle hold on the shooter market currently and is slated to release Call of Duty: Black Ops.   The yearly shooter franchise has been dominating sales and play charts since the 2007 release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Beyond that though, there’s also Halo: Reach which is slated to arrive in September.  A couple months after that though, eventhough not quite in the same genre, Rockstar will release Red Dead Redemption and that most certainly could be the big one that Guillemot is trying to avoid.  A one two punch of Red Dead Redemption and Call of Duty could spell trouble for any games looking to make their marks in 2010.

With the delay, Ghost Recon Future Soldier is slated for release in early-2011.  The exact release date as well as the platforms of the game is unknown.
