Cory Barlog is returning to Sony Santa Monica.  The director and lead animator on God of War II has returned to the studio after leading animation of the recent release of Tomb Raider.  Barlog recently took to the PlayStation Blog to reveal his return to the studio, but he did not reveal what he would be working on.

With so much talk of fours today, could Barlog be heading up development for God of War 4?

“We’re putting together a team as I type this,” said Barlog.  “We are searching the world high and low for the best of the best to come and be on the ground floor of this endeavor.”

While it’s easy to just assume that SSM will look to God of War IV as their next cash-in on the franchise, the studio has been vocal about God of War III being the end of that storyline.  The game did end with some finality, but definitely left the door open to move forward.

Sony fans are obviously very happy with this news, as many God of War fans consider God of War II to be the best in the series.
