UPDATE: According to a press release received by Amiibo News, the email was an error and no delay has been issued for the Gold Mario Amiibo.
A lot of customers, including myself, have received notice from Walmart that their pre-orders of the Walmart exclusive Gold Mario Amiibo hase been delayed. It looks like the release date has been consistently pushed back from March 20th to April 8th. The actual figure’s release date is still set as March 20th, and stores seems to be expecting to have their stock available then. At this time it seems like some pre-orders were not affected by the delay, though from anecdotal reports it doesn’t matter when your order was placed.
Many have said they were among the first to place their order, obviously this is based on assumptions based around when the figure became available to order. Yet they too received the same notification, pushing their order into April. This is especially odd considering pre-orders continue to pop up on Walmart’s website, with some who placed their orders within the last few days reporting no delay for them. There are even customers who pre-ordered once during the initial wave and again in a later offering. Only the first of their orders were delayed, indicating that the early orders have been specifically targeted here.
This seems odd, but it could simply be that Walmart is moving through the orders as they can. Later rounds of pre-orders could easily see the same, or worse of a delay hit their inbox soon. If you have to have your Gold Mario Amiibo on launch day then it looks like in-store is the only semi-reliable option at the moment.
