Gold Mario Amiibo Release Date Announced, Walmart Exclusive at Launch – Update: Preorders Available Sporadically

Nintendo has finally made official what we have known for quite some time. The special Gold Mario Amiibo will be exclusive to Walmart, though they have given collectors some hope with the stipulation that this exclusivity is “at launch”. This hints that the figure might become available in other stores some time after launch, leading to it not being quite as rare and hard to find as many had been worrying about. One thing that we did not know was the release date, which has been revealed to be March 20th.

If Walmart Canada spoke for all Walmart stores then there won’t be any preorder options available, either online or in store, so fans will have to head to their local Walmart on the 20th to secure this special Amiibo. With a rumored production run that far exceeds some of the currently difficult to purchase figures, the Gold Mario Amiibo might be less of a special edition, and more of a variant.

There is still no word on the other special release, the Silver Mario Amiibo, which was leaked at the same time as the gold one. With the latter becoming an official release, it seems to indicate that we will see the Silver Mario Amiibo at some point. Whether it will be exclusive to Walmart, or any other store, will be the big question.
