A recently posted achievement list for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has led many to believe that the game was getting a re-release. As it turns out, it is in a sense.
A question was brought up on the Rockstar Support page asking: “the Xbox Originals version of GTA: San Andreas was removed from Xbox LIVE. When will it become available again?”. Rockstar replied by shedding light on the situation and revealing that a 720p version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will be releasing in a few short days on October 26th on Xbox 360.
The updated version will feature enhanced draw distance, 720p resolution, as well as achievement support via the already leaked achievements. Additionally Rockstar goes into detail regarding compatibility between the two versions: “The Games on Demand version of San Andreas is not compatible with the Xbox Originals version. Save files will not transfer from Xbox Originals. Owners of the Xbox Originals version will still have access to the old version on their consoles and through their download history, with the option to purchase the new version to experience the added features on a new save file.”
Well, it may not be a full overhaul using the GTA V engine like many of us may have hoped for. However, the fact that it is re-releasing with achievements is good enough to get any Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas fan out of their seats. Now we can only hope the same is similar for the PSN Classic version of San Andreas.
