Take-Two have published their earnings for Q1 2016, and with that comes some impressive numbers. Grand Theft Auto V has now sold-in 54 million copies worldwide across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC. It is, by some distance, the best selling game in the franchise, and the fourth highest selling game of all time, behind Minecraft, Wii Sports and Tetris.

Take-Two also provided updates on their other franchises:

  • NBA 2K15 has sold-in 7 million copies
  • Mafia III will launch in the calendar year of 2016
  • Sid Meier’s series has sold 31 million units worldwide
  • A new unannounced AAA title to launch next year

Undoubtedly the most exciting news is the prospect of a new AAA title from one of Take-Two’s studios, which is sure to leave many speculating.

The overwhelming success of Red Dead Redemption, which launched in 2010, has seen many fans call for a sequel. Rockstar San Diego, who developed Red Dead Redemption, have not released a game since, although they did assist Rockstar North with the development of GTA V.

A recent listing has also revealed that Take-Two has renewed the trademark for Agent, the PlayStation 3 exclusive that was announced at E3 2009. Whether that remains a PlayStation 3 exclusive, or whether that remains a PlayStation 3 game at all, also remains to be seen.
