It appears as though there has been a change of direction for Daybreak Game Company’s zombie survival MMO, H1Z1.  The game has been in early access since January of 2015 as a standalone, but today it was announced that it will be splitting into two.  H1Z1: Just Survive will have the game’s original open-world, sandbox content; while H1Z1: King of the Kill will be “comprised of multiple, fight-to-the-death game modes, including Battle Royale…” The studio made the announcement earlier today on H1Z1’s official website, adding that King of the Kill will be coming out of early access.  It will be made available on PC, PS4 and XBOne this summer.
The studio wrote, “The more we developed this game with you, our community, the more we realized that in order to fully support both aspects of H1Z1, and their respective players, we needed to make them their own stand-alone games supported by their own dedicated development teams.”  Daybreak Game Company also noted that each game will host separate social channels.
H1Z1: Just Survive and H1Z1: King of the Kill will each run for $20 starting February 17.  Current owners of the game, as well as those who purchase it before the 16th, will receive both versions without any additional fees.  As of now the studio has not announced when they will be pulling Just Survive out of early access, so don’t expect to play it on console anytime soon.
