The current proliferation of the video game special edition can largely be traced back to the Halo franchise, which had a fantastic steelbook release for Halo 2 and the now famous Spartan helmet Legendary Edition of Halo 3. Now that tradition continues with the latest game, Halo 5: Guardians, whose beta is now open to any owners of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Three versions will be available for the game, with all currently up for pre-order on the official website. The three versions vary wildly from one another, with a massive Limited Edition topping things off at $249.99. Take a look at what is included in each below:
- Standard Edition for $59.99 – Halo 5: Guardians plus an exclusive poster, only available to those who pre-order.
- Limited Edition for $99.99 – Everything in the Standard Edition plus new digital content to enhance Spartan combat and exclusive items wrapped in a uniquely designed steel book.
- Limited Collector’s Edition for $249.99 – Everything in the Limited Edition as well as additional content such as a commemorative numbered statue designed by 343 Industries. More details on the design to be shared at a later date.
That price tag may be a bit much for most gamers, but for collectors it will likely be a small hurdle. Of course, it all comes down to the quality of the included statue, which has not been revealed at this time. The other questions is, how rare will this Limited Edition be? If it is too widely available then the price will likely drop later on, allowing people to skip launch day and get the statue later on for much cheaper. However, if it is truly limited then the price could go up as the statue becomes more and more of a collector’s item. Pre-orders are open now so you’ll want to decide quickly which version is right for you.
Halo 5: Guardians will be available in Fall 2015 exclusively for Xbox One.
