Some time ago, it was announced that Pokémon GO developer Niantic had begun working on an augmented reality game for mobile devices based on the Harry Potter universe. The title of this game came to be known as Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, though other details about the game remained secretive until now.
As of today (November 14), Harry Potter: Wizards Unite has an official website that gives some details about what the premise of the game will be, as well as the game’s first teaser trailer. In the world of the game, the wizarding world is in danger of being exposed to Muggles, the full exposure of which would lead to an event called “the Calamity.” As such, it is up to “the Statute of Secrecy Task Force (a new task force formed in partnership between the Ministry of Magic and the International Confederation of Wizards)” to contain the magic that is leaking out into the Muggle world.
It’s not entirely clear yet what gameplay will consist of, though it would seem from the trailer that players will be exploring the real world in a Pokémon GO-like fashion, searching out traces of misplaced magical items and performing spells to deal with them. Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is currently set for release sometime in 2019. You can watch the teaser trailer below.
