We now know when pre-orders for another major competitor in the VR race will go up, as HTC has revealed their Vive headset will be available to pre-order at the end of next month to The Telegraph.
HTC’s CEO Cher Wang has revealed that pre-orders for the HTC Vive will begin on February 29, which will be when we finally learn how much the device will actually cost. There are rumors that the device could end up being even more expensive than the Oculus Rift, though it’s all just speculation at this point in time.
Wang also discussed the company’s recent decision to move away from smartphones a bit and instead focus more on virtual reality. She said that, “Yes, smartphones are important, but to create a natural extension to other connected devices like wearables and virtual reality is more important.”
The HTC Vive was initially set to launch around the same time as the Oculus Rift, though a recent technological breakthrough resulted in the device’s delay. The breakthrough involved camera changes and mura correction, which results in a more immersive experience for the player. Other changes to the headset also include a brighter screen, a better strap and a smaller headset, all in an effort to make the device as comfortable to wear as possible.
