The Xbox One has struggled in the past to keep on par with the performance of Sony’s PS4. Some games have had lower quality visuals, with most opting to drop the resolution a little bit to compensate for the slightly less powerful hardware. Most of these were in the past though, with some changes helping developers maintain parity between the two systems. However, it looks like Just Cause 3 will continue the old ways and feature a lower resolution on Xbox One.

Speaking with GamingBolt, Just Cause 3 director Roland Lesterlin spoke on the game’s resolution saying “The game runs at 1080p on PS4 and 900p on Xbox One.” Lesterlin went on to explain why the disparity occurred, “We do so much with physics and screen space effects, that we are confident our players will thoroughly enjoy themselves no matter the platform they play the game on.”

This does somewhat run contrary to previous statements about Just Cause 3, where the developer said that PC was the lead platform and that PS4 and Xbox One would be treated equally. However, if they ran into issues getting everything running on the Xbox One, lowering the resolution just a bit does make sense.

Just Cause 3 hits PS4, Xbox One, and PC on December 1st.
