Information on the oddly-titled Kingdom Hearts 2.8 HD has been very scarce since its announcement, but that is all about to change with a new trailer that will be revealed tomorrow. The information was shared by the official Kingdom Hearts Twitter account, which will apparently be showing off some new gameplay and the release date.
For those who don’t know, Kingdom Hearts 2.8 HD is a remaster of the originally 3DS-exclusive Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, which was hyped up to be a very important chapter leading up to Kingdom Hearts 3. The package will also include two new pieces of content in the cinematic Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover and a complete new game called Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep–A Fragmentary Passage.
Interestingly enough, this collection of games will only be released for the PlayStation 4, despite the fact that Kingdom Hearts 3 will be launching for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. A release date for this new collection of games has not yet been revealed, though it is expected to launch later this year.
More information on the long-awaited Kingdom Hearts 3 is expected to be revealed at E3, though it’s suggested that the game won’t be out until sometime in 2017. It will be the first main installment since Kingdom Hearts 2 in 2006 for the PlayStation 2, though the series has gotten many spin-off games that have further fleshed-out/convoluted the story in the meantime. The series has mostly been focused on re-releases lately, however, with Dream Drop Distance being the last standalone release in 2012.
