Everyone get ready to put some bandages on your thumbs because Tetsuya Nomura has announced that the long awaited Critical Mode for Kingdom Hearts III launches as a free update tomorrow on April 23. No exact timeframe was given for the update, but at least we know that it will indeed arrive for the game at some point tomorrow.

In addition, Nomura states in his tweet that “We’ve changed things up from the previous games.” What that could mean is anyone’s guess as Critical Mode is easily the most difficult playthrough of the Kingdom Hearts series. Superseding the previous Proud Mode, Critical Mode is something of an extreme endurance run for hardcore fans of the franchise. First introduced in Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep, the difficulty historically adds an insane amount of damage the player takes from enemies, even more limited use on AP and MP, and other variants that make life much more horrifying for Sora and company.

Nomura has also stated in the past that their will be paid DLC for the game, but at this time their has been no word on when that would be released. For now we’ll take Critical Mode and any First Aid Kits for our fingers as we attempt to blaze through this infamously hard game setting, as well as not throwing our controllers at the television. Critical Mode is set to launch tomorrow on April 23 for Kingdom Hearts III, which is available now for the PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
