The Koei Tecmo CEO has now given more insight on what the Nintendo NX console will be like. The CEO reiterates that it will be a home console.
Koei Tecmo President and CEO Yoichi Erikawa was interviewed by 4Gamer (via Siliconera). He was asked about the current state of the home console market in Japan. 4Gamer feels Japanese gamers aren’t buying that many home consoles yet.
Erikawa replied: “Actually, I think that it’ll start doing much better. The PlayStation 4 has recently surpassed 2 million units in nationwide sales, and Nintendo announced a new ‘machine’ called the NX. From this point forward, I believe that each company will make clear commitments for these machines.”
His response shows that the Nintendo NX will be a big commitment for Nintendo. It also reconfirms that it will be a home console instead of just a portable successor to the 3DS. The home console market is not as large in Japan as it has been in previous generations, but Sony and Nintendo want to change that.
From a worldwide standpoint, the home console market has been very healthy. The PS4 and Xbox One has been selling much faster than the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles. Only the Wii U is lacking behind from the Wii. The Nintendo NX will hopefully be more successful than the Wii U.
