Madden 16 is just under a month away and EA Sports has started to reveal the top players at each position. We’ve already seen top positions revealed like QBs, RBs, and WRs, and now the other major playmaker on offense has been revealed with the tight end position.
If there was any position in the game that the number one player at that position wouldn’t be a surprise, it’s the Patriots’ Rob Gronkowski. Gronk is easily one of the most dominating players in the game week in and week out.
The number two rated player takes a 4 point OVR drop from Gronk, but he is still one of the best in the league. Jimmy Graham may have switched teams, but teaming up with the Seahawks and QB Russell Wilson is bound to be a recipe for success.
Jason Witten has been one of the best in the game for years and while not as dynamic as the top two, he is still solid most every week.
Greg Olsen quickly became Cam Newton’s favorite target a few years ago and continues to do that, especially with a less than stellar WR core around him last year. Olsen is one of the most reliable across the middle and deserves such a high rating.
Travis Kelce is the newest addition to the top 5 after having a stellar 2014 season and has plenty of room to keep growing this season.
As always, EA Sports has also given exact reasons for each of these ratings, which you can see below.
Gronk has three of the top ratings among tight ends with 94 Spectacular Catch, 98 Catch in Traffic, and 95 Release. He adds 94 Catching and 82 SPD/87 ACC/84 JMP/84 SFA. When healthy, there’s nobody better.
Russell Wilson will welcome Graham and his 92 Catching, 90 Spectacular Catch, and 88 Catch in Traffic. He can fight for the ball with 85 SPD/92 JMP/87 RTE/88 REL.
Witten does not dazzle with speed and quickness, but still features skills like 95 Catching, 92 Catch in Traffic, 88 Route Running, 85 Release, and 79 Spectacular Catch.
Olsen is an exceptional end zone target for Cam Newton with 89 Catching, 89 Jumping, 88 Spectacular Catch, 88 Release, and 87 Catch in Traffic.
After missing his entire rookie season due to injury, Kelce shined in his on-field debut in 2014. He brings 89 Catching, 89 Jumping, 88 Spectacular Catch, 87 Catch in Traffic, 88 Release, and 81 Route Running. He also features 85 Run Block, tops among tight ends.
