Mass Effect Andromeda Combat Video Goes Deep into the Details

Mass Effect Andromeda is just over a month away from its release date of March 21st for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and yet we’ve seen very little of the actual game. Gameplay videos and cinematic trailers have been released, but actual deep dives into the mechanics of the upcoming action-RPG have been scant. That changes today with the first of what promises to be a very informative video series focused on Mass Effect Andromeda. This first video is all about the combat, which looks to be a big improvement over the previous games in the series.

Check out the video below for all the details, which are quite extensive. EA and Bioware get down into the nitty gritty of Mass Effect Andromeda’s combat, showing off tons of new gameplay footage that looks great.

If you were wondering how much has changed between Mass Effect 3 and Andromeda, the answer seems to be not too much, but enough to make some key improvements. Andromeda’s combat looks to be faster and more fluid, with a jump jet that can get you in and out of the fight easily and quickly. Cover has also been expanded, with players able to use almost any surface to hide from incoming fire.

Weapon selection seems extensive, but all guns will fit into just four categories: pistols, shotguns, sniper rifles, and assault rifles. These won’t be limited by class decisions, so players can switch between whatever weapon works best for them, and the given situation. This is also true of abilities and stats, which can be enhanced through experience, without worrying about what your character class is.

Overall this video definitely pushed Mass Effect Andromeda back onto my most anticipated list. I hadn’t been impressed by some of the trailers being released, but seeing a solid chunk of gameplay really solidified that this was the Mass Effect sequel that we’d all been waiting for. Check it out, and let us know what you think in the comments below.
