Piranha Games has announced that the release for their upcoming PC game, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, has been slightly delayed. Instead of the original date, September 10, the game will now officially launch on December 10, with a closed Beta taking place on November 5. The company also announced that the game will now launch exclusively through the Epic Games Store.
Obviously this decision will make a lot of fans irate, and the company seems to be fully aware of this as they are currently offering full refunds to anyone who pre ordered the game regardless of which edition it was. On top of that, Piranha Games also stated that any of the MechWarrior Online content that you have redeemed by pre ordering MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will not be removed from your online account.
However, Piranha also made an important note near the end of the press release saying that anyone who does get a refund will “forfeit their access to the full game” in addition to not being able to participate in the Beta. Canceling a pre order should be a cut and dry message that you don’t plan on playing the game when it releases, but for some reason the company wants to drive that point home.
This may have something to do with the game’s exclusivity to the Epic Games Store, as a lot of people in the gaming community have a serious issue with the way they do business. Regardless, this is the best stance the company could take, and anyone who truly wants their money back has the option to do so as long as it’s on or before September 1. Chances are that the game will be kept as an Epic Games exclusive for approximately one year. After that, it will more than likely pop up on Steam, GOG, Humble Bundle, etc. You can check out the updated FAQ here.
