Konami has announced that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain managed to ship over 5 million copies worldwide.
Konami announced its financial results for FY2016 2nd quarter. It goes without saying that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was the company’s biggest success.
It’s worth mentioning the 5 million shipments included digital downloads for the game as well. Konami did not go into detail on the number of units PES 2016 sold however.
Another strong performer for Konami is a mobile game called “JIKKYOU PAWAFURU PUROYAKYU”. This game managed to acquire 17 million downloads since it came out 11 months ago. This is one of the reasons why Konami wants to focus on mobile games since they attract a larger market.
The PDF file also showed upcoming games from Konami in the pipeline. Again, there is no sign of any console games. Most upcoming games from Konami are mobile titles coming only in Japan. This includes the newly announced Bomberman.
Konami has tried to say that they are still going to make console games in the near future. Whether or not this includes new Metal Gear Solid games without Hideo Kojima remains to be seen. At this point, nothing has been announced thus far.
