An upcoming update for Minecraft will feature witches and bats according to Mojang. Nathan Adams is currently working on the project for release with the upcoming Minecraft 1.4 update that is expected prior to Halloween.
From the description of the additions, it looks like Witch Mobs will be hostile, and bats will be neutral. No further details about special drops that these new characters will leave behind was revealed at this time, but it will be interesting to see what kind of items they add to the game.
PC players of Minecraft aren’t the only ones who should be expecting an update in the near future. 4J Studios also recently spoke out on an upcoming patch for the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft. The developer who ported the PC experience to consoles is still working on bringing that game up to speed with its PC counterpart.
4J had this to say about future updates for Minecraft on the Xbox 360.
“The Xbox 360 won’t be able to have the mod system that gives such a variety of community additions to the game on PC, but we’re looking at the elements of these that people seem to be enjoying the most, and deciding how we could tailor those elements into something for Xbox. The audience for the game on the Xbox is different from the PC version, mainly due to the console being in the living room and using controllers rather than a mouse and keyboard, so we need to ensure that whatever we do is right for that audience.”
The most recent update on the timeline for the Xbox 360 update was for players to expect a patch within the next couple of weeks.
