Something is going on at NeoGAF. This weekend the popular gaming forum has seen a number of moderators step down from their positions at the site. The exact reasons are unknown at the moment, but it appears that it is because of a post on the site that’s been censored which implicates that the owner had sexually harassed a woman.
The original post stems from the #MeToo campaign. The hashtag recently popped up with women and men sharing their stories of sexual harassment via social media. The accusations claim that the owner of NeoGAF, Tyler Malka, hopped into a shower uninvited with a woman he was travelling with. Out of fear the woman says that she’d kept quiet about the act.
While it’s unclear whether the accusations are true or not, they appear to be real enough for the moderator team of the forum to step away from their positions this weekend. Numerous threads on the topic have been deleted. NeoGAF users are making account suicide threads in protest, asking for their accounts to be banned.
Being that this is the internet, there are numerous stories going around at the moment as to what has caused the mass exodus in terms of the moderation team for the forum. That said, it’s pretty obvious that there is no moderation on NeoGAF at the moment and those with accounts are taking advantage of it by posting whatever they want. Some are protest posts, some are completely made up posts about video game news, others are just taking a time out to speak their mind to Malka.
There are rumblings that an official statement is being prepared by the owner regarding the accusations. Currently the site is experiencing intermittent outages with rampant speculation from both members of the forum and outsiders wondering if this is the end for NeoGAF?
