Sony has announced the formation of a brand new company that will be put in charge of all things PlayStation. Sony Interactive Entertainment will be the parent company controlling the brand for both home consoles as well as the games that play on them. The new company is essentially a merger between Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment, bringing them both together in a headquarters in San Mateo, California.

“The formation of SIE will create an even stronger PlayStation,” reads the announcement from Sony Computer Entertainment of America President and CEO Shawn Layden. “That means an even bigger emphasis on developing pioneering platforms like PS4 and PlayStation VR, world-class games from our World Wide Studios development teams, and innovative network services such as PlayStation Vue.”

The announcement comes with a newfound commitment from Sony for the PlayStation, dedicating even more of the overall business to the console gaming industry. “It also means a renewed commitment to making PlayStation the best place to play. Thank you for joining us on this important step in PlayStation history. And as always, we are deeply grateful for your continued support and feedback. We’re excited to undertake this next step in PlayStation history with you!”

We don’t yet know which talent will make the transition, and if any will be lost on the way, but expect to hear about some shakeups before this all finishes up.
