New Super Mario Bros. U Jumping to Switch

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is an incredible game and is in fact the second best-selling Nintendo Switch game, losing out only to Super Mario Odyssey, outperforming itself on the Wii U. It’s absolutely no wonder then that Nintendo would consider bringing more of its Wii U titles over to the portable wonder.

A rumor appearing on comicbook.com suggests that the brilliant 2D platformer, New Super Mario Bros. U is about to be announced for Switch sporting the (see if you can notice a pattern here) title New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe.

The game scored brilliantly with fans and critics alike when it was released in 2012, offering up dynamite platforming that could be enjoyed with 4 players simultaneously. The game even utilized the under-utilized Wii U GamePad, which allowed a fifth player to control the environment to hinder or help. It’s unclear whether this multiplayer aspect will still be a core part of the game but considering the local wireless-play nature of the Switch and its focus on social gaming, I’ve not doubt that it will make the Deluxe edition.

To live up to this Deluxe moniker, the rumor further suggests that the DLC expansion / stand alone mini-title, New Super Luigi U, will be included in the bundle. This makes sense as it would up the value of the game and give players a delightfully mustached green bonus.

NSLU

The Wii U was somewhat of a disappointment in terms of units sold and games attached but the increasing popularity of the Switch has of course given its titles new life. Let’s not forget that the third best-selling Switch game is also a Wii U title, that being The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is also on that top ten list and even Pokken Tournament DX comes in at number eleven.

Until we get a confirmation, this is of course just rumor. But fingers crossed because, let’s be honest, Nintendo, we want every Wii U title on the system.
