Niantic Hints at Squirtle Squad for Pokemon GO Community Day

Pokemon GO’s monthly Community Day celebration has become a huge hit with players of the massively popular mobile game. For three hours on a select day a certain Pokemon will spawn in huge numbers, often with other bonuses like a unique move or a shiny variant. Squirtle is the next Pokemon to be featured, with his Community Day even taking place on July 8th. Many fans have been hoping that the Squirtle Squad could make an appearance on this day, and a new message from Niantic has those fans very excited.

“Hmm…the weather is looking particularly nice for July’s Pokemon GO Community Day. Remember to pack some sunblock, stay hydrated, and maybe bring some sunglasses. Stay tuned, Trainers,” reads the tweet. Of course, for longtime fans of Pokemon and Squirtle, any mention of sunglasses immediately brings to mind the Squirtle Squad from the anime.

This group of nefarious group of Squirtles all wear sunglasses and go around terrorizing the inhabitants of nearby towns. They’ve been featured in a few episodes of the TV show and have generated a lot of fans. This could just be a fun tease on Niantic’s part, but if so they will have some disgruntled players on their hands. Let’s all wait and hope for more info as July 8th gets closer.
