Nintendo and HORI Are Bringing the Splatoon 2 Headset to the West

by Jose Belmonte

A few weeks ago Nintendo revealed a special Splatoon 2-themed headset made by HORI for the Japanese market, to use while playing online multiplayer on Nintendo Switch. Now the headset has been confirmed to come to Western countries thanks to a recent listing on Amazon, which makes the “Splatoon 2 Splat & Chat Headset” available to pre-order before its official launch on July 21st, coinciding with the game’s release.

The Splat & Chat Headset is based on an item from the game, imitating its form and colors. It will allow players to talk with friends online while they play the game. It features interchangeable decorative plates, and a detachable microphone in case players just want to listen to the audio from the game. The official description on confirms that the product is being sold under an official license from Nintendo. These are the official characteristics of the product:

  • Splatoon themed headset based on in-game item
  • Enjoy in-game sound and voice chat at the same time during online multiplayer mode
  • Removable mic
  • Interchangeable decorative plates
  • Officially licensed by Nintendo

The package includes the headset and the adaptator to connect the console with the headsets and a smartphone, which is required to use the app that enables online chat.

Splatoon 2 promises a larger focus on online multiplayer, adding new weapons, maps, and customization options. You can also read our impressions on the single player campaign, which so far seems solid enough to please the fans.
