At long last, Obsidian Entertainment has removed the veil off of its rumored RPG, revealing The Outer Worlds to the gaming world.
Announced at The Game Awards 2018, The Outer Worlds looks like a reentry into familiar territory for the developer, drawing upon the many experiences that helped it become the highly-respected studio that it is today. Not only is it an RPG, which is Obsidian Entertainment’s specialty, but it’s also a sci-fi shooter, combining the premises of two of the studio’s most well-known titles: The Sith Lords and Fallout: New Vegas.
Hell, even Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, co-creators of the original Fallout, are leading development.
Here is more via Obsidian Entertainment:
The Outer Worlds is a new single-player first-person sci-fi RPG from Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division.
In The Outer Worlds, you awake from hibernation on a colonist ship that was lost in transit to Halcyon, the furthest colony from Earth located at the edge of the galaxy, only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy it. As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.
A release date wasn’t announced, but The Outer Worlds is confirmed to be coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
